Puss in Boots: hoots, loots, & roots

With the power out this morning due to the Nor’easter, us electricity addicts, decided to go to the movies!  Here’s a great family film everyone is sure to enjoy!

Puss in Boots is a prequel to DreamWorks’ animated series Shrek starring Antonio Bandaras as Puss and a new cast of characters including Billy Bob Thorton and Amy Sedaris as Jack and Jill, Zach Galifianakis as Humpty Dumpty, and Salma Hayek as Kitty Softpaws, Puss’s love interest.

By the way, don’t be waiting for a Shrek or Fiona appearance. They are not in this one at all!

The story combines several fairy tale and Mother Goose story lines and characters and uses them as a springboard to create a new adventure, completely different from the French fairy tale story-line about a very cunning cat.  Humpty and Puss grew up together in an orphanage and have now reconnect but must get past a rift in their brotherhood due to Humpty’s past betrayal.  Puss agrees to set out on an adventure to capture some magic beans that will eventually lead them to a fortune in the form of a goose who lays golden eggs which they can use to redeem themselves and save their village.

If you love Shrek you will love Puss in Boots equally.  This adventure holds adults and children’s attention (even my 3 1/2 year old sat still)!  Stylistically, the animation is masterfully executed with lots of detail to draw you in.  There are also plenty of laughs all around!  I hope you enjoy this one as much as my family has!  And by the way, our power was back on when we got home, phew!
