Baby’s Breath

"Baby's Breath" felt-tip pen on marker paper

Last night I lay down with my 3 ½ year old to help him get to sleep.  We lay facing each other and talked quietly in the dark for a while about my son’s favorite subject, toys.  In order to speed up the process I turned over to disengage with him.  He put his arm around my neck like he often does and I listened to his breathing change.  I lingered there in the bed a lot longer than was necessary.  I could feel his hot breath at my back and it was just one of those moments.

  1. I really love your blog! So glad I found it (via NaBloPoMo).

I am a fellow Mom, and a fellow artist. I am currently trying to make more time for art in my daily life and I find your blog so inspiring to do so. :)

  2. THANK U 4 SHARING THAT JOYFUL, INTIMATE MOMENT.
THERE IS NOTHING IN THIS WORLD SWEETER OR MORE PRECIOUS THAN A CHILD AND THE TIME WE SPEND WITH HIM OR HER.
I JUST HOPE THAT ANYONE OUT THERE WHO IS SADLY CHILDLESS WILL REALIZE THAT OPPORTUNITIES TO KNOW AND LOVE A CHILD DO EXIST OUTSIDE OF NATURAL PARENTHOOD AND AT ANY AGE AND THAT THEY WILL SUCCESSFULLY SEEK THEM OUT.
AS ALWAYS LOVE THE TOUCHING SKETCH.

  3. I know this isn’t a current NaBloPoMo posting, but I was so intrigued by the preview image that I had to click forth. And I’m glad I did! You’ve captured such an amazing moment of connectedness. I really enjoyed your description of your *lingering*, as I often do over pieces that move me such as this illustration you’ve shared!
