Travelling on the eve of a birth…

9 View from bridge

Just like many others we were travelling on Christmas Eve.  We had an open house to go to at my husband’s sister’s house but we were travelling for another reason too.  My step daughter is having a baby.

She is in labor on the same night I suppose Mary was so many years ago, on her way to having a Christmas baby.  And even at her young age of 18, she is still a good deal older then Mary was believed to be at the time of Jesus’ birth.  This is making Christmas so real for me today.  Sitting in Mass tonight listening to the long list of ancestral (mostly father’s) names from Abraham to Jesus and now as we anxiously wait for news via text, I am thinking of Mary, my step-daughter, and my own births and just how universal and scary labor is and how the probable good outcome seems so out of reach and when it does come, what a surreal and joyous moment it is!  So on this Christmas, I honor Mary, all the mothers before her, after her, and all the mothers who are still to come.  Merry Christmas Everyone and enjoy my travel pics!

    • Thank Larissa! Merry Christmas and the baby DID come at 2:30 am on Christmas morning; everyone is healthy and doing fine!

    • Thanks – I guess I am a step-grandma (weird huh?!!!);

      Love the colorful light in the winter!

      I appreciate you stopping by as much as you do – it really keeps me going as does visiting your site!!! THANKS!!!

  1. I hope the new mommy and baby are doing well. Did you travel to Boston or back to Boston? I live near Boston and it’s so funny but I went on the Zakin bridge yesterday on a trip to SkyZone in Everett that turned out to be futile. But I did have a brief moment of wonder and awe driving through the Zakin bridge. It’s so beautiful.

    • We came from the Cape and traveled North of Boston. The Zakim bridge is very cool especially at night with the blue lights! Mommy and baby are healthy but tired thanks for asking!
