Heart “Mood Lighting” Craft

Create mood lighting for Valentines Day with this fun and easy craft!

Paper Bag Heart "Mood Lighting" Craft

Present you love ones their Valentines against the backdrop of soft light with illuminated heart shapes galore!

Create a cool lamp shade cover with a paper bag, a few paper craft supplies, and your creativity!  This craft is a lot of fun because you can experiment with different light effects as you create.  Just create an affect and slip the paper bag over the lamp shade to test it out.

What you’ll need…

A paper bag that fits over a table lamp, scissors, glue-stick, construction paper, tissue paper, doilies, and anything else you’d like to try!

How to start…

Cut a round hole in the top of the bag for venting and then go where your imagination takes you!  You can cut heart shaped holes and try backing them with tissue paper or doilies.  Create designs with pin holes and add construction paper shapes inside or out.  Keep experimenting around all 4 sides of the bag.  It’s a lot of fun!

I hope you like this Paper Bag craft.  It is inspired by Mommy Lab’s beautiful Paper Bag Heart Luminaries and created for Tinker Lab’s Paper Bag Creative Challenge.  Follow these links to see many great paper bag creations!

  1. Very nice! I lived in New Mexico for a few years and loved the luminarias there every Christmastime. I’ve always meant to do something with them here at the holidays, but never remember in time! This is a great little project, really suited to a romantic, mood-lighting holiday like Valentine’s Day. Nice work!

    • My kids like stuff like this too ; )

Mexico – that must have been an amazing experience – I imagine you can speak Spanish then!
