The kids are off from school for winter break and so begins our quest for fun things to do each day. We began with a scenic drive to our “treat” library.
I stopped at this lake which was exceptionally still and foggy to take some pictures while the kids played for a bit.
I only noticed the small feather in this shot after I downloaded. I love it!
Here is a video I took of some pine tree ripples created by my kids throwing rocks, shells, and sticks into an otherwise still pond (with intro to “Answer to the Weeping Willow” by The Carter Family).
I’m hoping this calm moment/mini-activity sets the tone for a really great vacation week!

We get this next week off school, too, and I am so excited!
The feather is the perfect touch in that photo – I LOVE finding beautiful accidents like that when I go through my film!
Thanks! I am so looking forward to this week!
Ann, I love this post. I love all your posts but especially am fond of you in search of peaceful nature. I love that you are encouraging your kids to find happiness and tranquility that way instead of hours in front of the TV. You should publish a book of nature photography! I would so buy it!
THANKS! I honestly never thought about that before. I think I would have to get a REAL camera first!
Beautiful. The lake looks so calming and serene. Wonderful. Hope you guys have a lovely vacation week!
Thanks Larissa!
Your video is so pretty and calming- thanks for all the nature you give us!
Thanks! That makes me happy!
Love the photos, especially the one with the feather!
Cool – huh?! Thanks!
Isn’t it so fun to throw things into ponds, especially if they are frozen over! I had no idea that this makes such a great echoing noise! Love the ripple photo of your pond!
Thanks! We will have to try the frozen version – not too much freezing happening this winter!
ABSOLUTELY LOVED, LOVED, LOVED THE REFLECTING POND VIDEO, MAGICAL, MUSIC IN ITSELF, “VISUAL” MUSIC, AN D THE OTHER PHOTOS. THANKS SO MUCH FOR THAT
Thanks! It was a fun little diversion!
