I think it’s Smilax or green-briar. It is a thorny vine and it grows all over the place on Cape Cod. It is so fascinating to look at and painful to handle. The crazy happy vines seem to be tormenting the angry thorns. You can simultaneously use this stuff to make weapons and decorative arrangements. I try and follow the crazy happy vines with my eyes. For some reason I want to make sense of what they are doing and where they are going.

Crazy happy vines are really cool. Did you go cross-eyed trying to follow them? I would try to do that and then just get frustrated and hate nature altogether.
Thanks, I probably would have if I didn’t have kids telling me to, “come on and stop taking picture!”
Very cool! Love those vines!
They can certainly take on an eery feeling seeing how unstoppable they are! Given enough time, they could swallow a whole house.
Definite horror movie quality if you let you imagination go!
Also, thanks for showcasing me on your “Good Reads” blogroll!!
Your welcome, Kris!
Your photos are amazing!
Thanks Maryanne! The trail we walked was completely taken over by these! The same thorn bushes I have – got me a little freaked out – I am going to do some serious cutting back this year!
I love the twirly vines! Amazing what nature can do!
Totally amazing!
