Sound Asleep in “The Land of Nod”

Nursery Inspiration

Here you will find my picks for quality, warm and friendly, yet modern nursery furnishing from The Land of Nod to inspire your perfect gender neutral nursery!

But first…

Do you know the poem?  Here it is…

“The Land of Nod” by Robert Louis Stevenson

I see a profile! What do you see?

From breakfast on through all the day
At home among my friends I stay,
But every night I go abroad
Afar into the land of Nod.

All by myself I have to go,
With none to tell me what to do —
All alone beside the streams
And up the mountain-sides of dreams.

The strangest things are there for me,
Both things to eat and things to see,
And many frightening sights abroad
Till morning in the land of Nod.

Try as I like to find the way,
I never can get back by day,
Nor can remember plain and clear
The curious music that I hear.

The Land of Nod: what a great name for a store that sells baby-wares!  And dreamy things they do carry!  As an affiliate, I thought it would be fun to set up a nursery with products from the The Land of Nod.  And when I saw the 70% sale, I thought, the time is now!

 The Land of Nod

This is by no means a comprehensive list.  It is more of a dreamy baby centered utopia of expensive, but worth it, products.  How many times are you going to become a mom?  Shouldn’t you enjoy everything about it including the stuff?!  And keep it gender neutral so you can shop ahead of time, accommodate twins, avoid cliche pink and blue, and/or be able to use it for your next!

So here goes (click on the hyperlink below each picture for more details)…

My Gender Neutral Nursery Wish List

For the crib I picked this simple white modern one with espresso base.  Don’t forget a mattress and waterproof mattress pad!

Baby Cribs: Baby Painted White Low Rise Modern Crib with Espresso Base

For bedding I picked this fun gray and yellow chick pattern, great for boy or girl; although if you know what you are having and prefer gender specific, The Land of Nod has some great choices!

Baby Crib Bedding: Baby Grey & Yellow Patterned Crib Bedding

And to go along with the bedding, I love this mobile!

Baby Mobiles: Baby Wooden Bird Mobile

For a dresser I chose one to coordinate with the espresso crib base.  It is the perfect size for a little one plus you can add a changer top to it and avoid having to get a separate changing table!

Kids Dressers: Kids 2-Over-2 Drawer Espresso Simple Dresser

Next on the list is a bookcase.  Books will look so much more interesting to your baby in this type!

Kids Bookcases: Kids White Floor Book Bin

And the most important piece…  The rocker!  You will likely spend lots of time here and this gray and brown one ties everything together!

Nursery Rockers: Heather Grey Monte Joya Rocker

Next a classic play rug; I think this one is great for boys AND girls plus it’s 100% wool!

Kids Rugs: Kids Town Activity Rug Features Roads, Trees, Buildings And Lakes

You don’t have to get this right away but it will become an absolute essential.  And the brown will hide the scribbles!

Kids Play Tables: Kids Dark Brown Corner Play Table

And finally for all the toys, I love these baskets which are fun and functional!  Can’t you just picture your future toddler putting away toys in these?!

Kids Storage Containers: Kids Colorful Striped Woven Storage Waste Bin

Now it’s time to fill those drawers with too many cute baby outfits, the shelves with lots of award winning board books, and the baskets with loads of stimulating toys!  The Land of Nod has a choice selection of these items too.  In fact this was so much fun, I may do a follow up post for these items!  There are other things you’ll need and I found a great Nursery Checklist here.

Now try and imagine your little one sound asleep in this room of nice things for The Land of Nod!

Wow, this was fun and makes me almost want another baby!

You might be thinking right about now, how much is this all going to cost?!  Truthfully?  Lots! but a whole lot less than college and isn’t it so worth it to have nice things?!  Realistically I know this may be out of reach for many, as it was for me when I was expecting.  If that is the case for you, do not despair.  Use this list and Land of Nod as an aspirational resource.  You can look at what they offer and use it to get ideas about function and style then look for less expensive alternatives and used items.  You can also do a hybrid with a splurge here and there.  Either way happy shopping and best wishes for you and your little bundle!
