The The Doodles and Jots gang, minus me, went to see Journey 2: The Mysterious Island and couldn’t stop talking about it. They kids LOVED it so must they wanted to buy the DVD. Dad, on the other hand had mixed reviews. He had a hard time getting past the logic gaps in the story line. He also found it to be a tad suggestive, a bit cheesy, and contained one of our pet peeves: attitudey teens.
Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, a sequel to the 2008 movie, Journey to the Center of the Earth stars Josh Hutcherson (also in the first movie) as Sean Anderson, The Rock, Luis Guzman, Vanessa Hudgens, and Micheal Caine. It’s about a teen with an adventuring spirit (that runs in the family) who receives a distress signal from his long lost grandfather. Together with his step dad, they crack the code and set out on a journey to find an island in the Pacific, that is not supposed to exist.
Now out in DVD, we watched it last night OnDemand. Oh, and again this morning. Oh, and probably one more time before our 48 hour rental expires!
While agreeing with Mr. Doodles and Jots on his criticisms, I actually couldn’t help but thoroughly enjoy it, vicariously though my children. Adventure movies can be pure pleasure plus it draws on details from 3 classic adventure novels: The Mysterious Island by Jules Verne, Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson, and Gulliver’s Travels by Johnathan Swift. I also think in may be a good intro to these books for our family.
In conclusion, while probably not a critic’s pick, I do recommend it for a fun family summer movie night!
Have you read these books? Which one do you think we should we start with?

I remember we had a wonderful dramatic recording of Treasure Island that I listened to over and over as a kid! I also remember enjoying “Gulliver’s Travels”
Oh, and I REALLY want to learn how to do fancy photo editing like your top photo! So cool!!!

I like recorded books too. As a kid I had a Curious George one and a Frog and Toad one.
The photo editing is easy when you know how. I think you have given me a post idea ; )
We bought it on Amazon downloads. Don’t buy it, you can “borrow” ours anytime. Wish I had known. We bought it yesterday!!!!

It was pretty entertaining for our crowd.
I SAW ONLY THE FINALE, THE KIND WHICH MAKES ME NERVOUS EVEN THOUGH IT’S NOT REAL LIFE, BUT HAPPILY THIS FILM FINDS IT COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY TO BE ANYWHERE REALISTIC IN PROVIDING THE HAPPY ENDING WE ALL WANT.
LOVE YOUR GRAPHIC.
