Two GREAT red sled books…

Red SledLita Judge (Author, Illustrator)

In this almost wordless picture book, a host of woodland creatures take a child’s sled for a nighttime joy ride. Their whimsical ride is gorgeously depicted in bold watercolor, complemented by humorous expressions and pitch-perfect sound effects. With a timeless tone and classic characters, RED SLED will become a wintertime favorite (Amazon description).

Red SledPatricia Thomas (Author), Chris Demarest (Illustrator)

A boy and his father share a winter night of sledding. Outside, the crescent moon is shining brightly and the world is covered with snow. Inside, a boy and his father feel sad. So they put on their hats and coats and climb a hill, pulling a red sled. Father and son climb aboard and zoom down the hill under a starlit sky. With their spirits lifted high, they return home for a mug of hot chocolate. Then it’s time for bed. Patricia Thomas’s loving story, affectionately illustrated by Chris L. Demarest, is told with the utmost simplicity (Amazon description).

  1. We read both of those recently! They were in our winter themed book haul from the library and were just returned the other day. Both have great illustrations but we definitely enjoyed the Patricia Thomas book more.

    • The Patricia Thomas one is very clever – that is the one told in as a chiasmus or “mirror image” poem.
