A Powerful Appeal

power lines illustration

I love communities with power lines underground.  You might not even notice the lack of utility poles but you will probably notice something just seems nicer.  We have above ground power lines in my neighborhood and I joked about their resemblance to trees here but in reality they compete with the trees.  For a few years in a row we had frequent power outages from storms so this past year the power company/s came though with bucket trucks and wood chippers and cut back the trees.  Lately I have been noticing how strange the trees look.  Trees probably don’t have feeling but who really knows.  They do look a little sad.  So today, to quote from The Lorax, “I speak for the trees” and make the case for underground power lines!

    • We just cut down a tree in our yard because it was leaning towards our neighbor’s house but I am planning on planting at least one in its place!

  1. Yes yes & yes. Lets get those lines underground ASAP! And I believe trees do have feelings for sure. I’m all about hugging the trees. :-) LOL. (I really do hug trees. :-)

  2. Our neighbour just demolished an old house and built two new ones on the lot next to ours. For new buildings he has to put the power underground. He wants to site the green power dome on our property because it would be inconvenient to put it on his! Grrrrr. I do agree underground power is nicer, but it is expensive for homeowners in our area to retrofit 1920s homes for it.

    • That doesn’t seem right that he should build his dome on your lot. I would like the result but would complain too about paying for it.

    • It’s devastating to lose Internet! I didn’t know ants could be a problem. I am sure it is just a mater of cost but certainly it’s should be done in new communities.
