I Spy: A Fox Cutting Through the Backyard!

fox trot

When we finally got home on Sunday from a family day at my parents I opened the slider to let in the evening breeze just in time to see a fox cutting through our backyard! So glad we were inside!  For some reason it reminded me of this scene from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.  Know the one I mean?

For a cool down watch this clever fox…

Did you know there are three beautifully illustrated Caldecott award winning picture books with foxes?

The Fox Went Out on a Chilly Night is a folk song about a fox looking for food for his family illustrated with Peter Spier’s scenic birds eye views. Here is a short, inspiring video about the illustrator…

There’s also Chanticleer and the Fox by Geoffrey Chaucer and illustrated by Barbara Cooney. It is about a fox who challenges a rooster. I love how the illustrations have a medieval feel. Also you can say you’ve read Chaucer to your kids!

And third is One Fine Day by Noney Hogrogian which I also mentioned along with my first fox sighting. I love the way she captured the fox! This folk tale inspired story is about a fox who gets his tail cut off for stealing and sets out to make amends. This story is a cumulative which means each each page builds on the last. They can be fun because kids can predict what will happen.

  1. Excellent recommendations Ann!

I haven’t thought about Ferris in such a long time. When I looked at the clip, I was like – WOW, look at how young Matthew Broderick was.

Thanks for sharing! I loved the you tube clip. I’m going to show it to the kids.
