A Very Merry I Spy: Cardinal in a Holly Tree

cardinal in a holly

Now I know Christmas is coming because this morning I saw a cardinal in a holly tree. If I didn’t see him swoop in and land on a branch I might not have noticed him at all. I might have just thought he was a cluster of berries. It reminded me of a cardinal ornament my mother has with real feathers. I used to like to put that one on the tree. In fact I have one too. Mine is a little white bird.

Do you like my animated GIF? They are pretty easy to make. I created this graphic in PowerPoint. Then I copied the PowerPoint slide 7 times. Then on each slide I rotated the bird 1 degree. I saved the document as a PDF and opened it in Gimp (which is a free Photoshop type program). The document imports into Gimp as 8 layers. All you do then is rename each layer to include a time for example: layer 1 (100ms), layer 2 (100ms), and so on. You can preview your animations by selecting playback under filter, animation. Once you are happy, save it as a GIF and selected animated and continual loop in preferences.

Have you been seeing signs of Christmas? Please share!

  1. Oh I really like how you made your animation!

Yesterday my husband pointed out some “Merry Christmas” flags our city has up – I keep forgetting Christmas is coming and then remembering at random moments like that. Still not used to Christmas in the summer.

    • I was thinking of a tutorial post but maybe a video would be easier : ) Maybe I will plan on doing that one day soon.

    • I am not so good at explaining things in a thorough way. Maybe one of these days I create a tutorial with screen captures but that is so time consuming!
