Horse Stable Crochet Pattern

Barn Bag Crochet Pattern

Do you have a horse stuffie? Do you wish you had a way to carry him around and show him off? Do you like to crochet and have red, white, and black or brown yarn? Why not make a stable bag! It’s an easy project. You just need to make two solid granny squares, connect them with white and add a black or brown handle/roof. I like that this simple granny square has an “x” in it which is reminiscent of the cross supports on a barn door. To make the two granny squares you can follow this excellent video for a total of 5 rows but I have also written out instructions if you prefer.

Here is what you’ll need…

Medium weight red, white, and black yarn, a 5 mm hook, and a horse (like this) or other farm animal stuffie.

Here’s how…

  1. Chain 4 and slip stitch into first chain to create a small loop.
  2. Chain 5, 3 double crochets into loop, chain 2, 3 double crochets into loop, chain 2, 3 double crochets into loop, chain 2, 2 double crochets into loop, then slip stitch into 3rd chain to complete round 1
  3. Chain 3, double crochet 2 into corner, chain 2, double crochet 2 into corner, double crochet in next 3 double crochets, repeat from double crochet into corner for the rest of the round (after the last corner there will be 2 double crochets before completing the round with a slip stitch into the 3rd chain stitch); this completes round 2
  4. Chain 3, double crochet in next 2 double crochets, double crochet 2 into corner, chain 2, double crochet 2 into corner, double crochet in next 7 double crochets, repeat from double crochet into corner for the rest of the round (this completes round 3)
  5. Continue pattern for rounds 4 and 5
  6. Single stitch the 2 granny squares together on 3 sides with the white yarn (single crochet into each double crochet, 4 single crochets into corners)
  7. Starting 2 stitches from the corner single crochet 2, 4 single crochets into corner of first granny square, 4 single crochets into corner of second granny square, 4 single crochets into next 4 double crochets, chain 30, single crochet into four double crochets from corner, 4 single crochets into first corner, 4 single crochets into second corner, 4 single crochets into next 4 double crochets, chain 30, 2 single crochets to complete 1st round
  8. Chain 2, single crochet all around for second and final round of black to complete roof/handle
