Why big blogs are good for us little blogs

Here is my opinion and a confession. I hope I don’t hurt anyone’s feeling with this… Before I started my blog, I avoided blogs! If Google sent me to a blog when I was let’s say, looking up a recipe, I would immediately hit the back button and select a “more established” more reputable site.  Honestly, I wouldn’t even give it a chance.  And this is coming from a person who has a very close sister who has been a successful blogger for years! It is not that I didn’t respect what she was doing.  I was, in fact, impressed with what she had accomplished and built. Continue reading

Old Timey Words

My neighbors often have a table of free stuff on their front lawn. Sometimes bigger things too including furniture but they are usually old MDF pieces that are close to the end of their life cycle therefore not worth taking. No matter what they have, my daughter wants it. Sometime I will take the long way in order to not have to pass it because I hate saying no.

Yesterday they had an old television cabinet out on display. Continue reading

Look What I Found…

Okay, so sometimes when I take pictures I don’t notice things until after I upload them to my computer.  Like one day I took some pictures of a forsythia bush and when I enlarge them I noticed three large ants, each in their own bloom, having a snack.

It was misting all day today and everything was beautifully green and dewy and I thought it would be cool to take some close-ups of water droplets.  So pretty, right?!  Well check out what I discovered this time… Continue reading

Red Star Balloon

Star Balloon (pen & ink on marker paper, colorized in Gimp)

The other day I saw a star shaped red star balloon escaping in the sky.  Later I drove by an open house with the same red balloons out front.  Even so I couldn’t help but be reminded of one of childhood’s biggest disappointments.

Along with your ice cream scoop toppling off its cone and onto the ground, accidentally letting go of a balloon is right up there with the major tragic events of childhood!

When I was 5

Carvel ice-cream in a baseball hat

When I was 5 we moved to an urban section of Queens, NY.  We lived on the second floor of a building with 2 sides connected by a courtyard.  I practiced drawing all the time partially thanks to a printing press on the ground floor.  We would grab discarded prints in huge stacks from their dumpster and draw on the backs.

The apartment we lived in had a bedroom for my older sister and I and one for my parents and baby brother.  Continue reading

If we could fly…

Flying bicycle in red

Instead of a stroll you might choose to go for a evening glide.
Sports would be different, for example basketball would probably be deemed too easy.
We might choose to have our doors on our roofs.
Roof decks would likely be a lot more popular;
as would tree houses and skyscrapers
(where each apartment could have its own entrance).
Fashion would be a little different to accommodate our wings.
We wouldn’t need foot bridges, stairs, or ladders.
Kids would have an additional milestone to reach.
Flying cars would probably already exist as would the flying equivalent of bicycles.
