Don’t you think it would be cool to find a cave and discover a long lost treasure?! In The Secret Cave: Discovering Lascaux by Emily Arnold McCully a group of boys do just that! They discovered perfectly preserved cave paintings of animals estimated to be 17 thousand years old! Caves are fascinating from a geological standpoint and also for their ability to hide and preserve something so old! Continue reading

I like wood. But do you know what I like every more than wood? Bamboo!
It has so many uses just like hardwood except since it’s a grass it grows back when you cut it down. It also grows super fast! So how about including gifts made of bamboo this holiday! It has all the same warm tactile qualities of wood but is also renewable. You can get a bamboo plant. I have somehow manage to keep one alive since September. Do you like handmade gifts? How about decorating and stringing some bamboo beads. Do you know they even make fabric out of bamboo?
Or choose from the follow Amazon finds and a zillion other cool things made of bamboo you can find online! Continue reading
I just noticed this faceted crystal hanging in my sisters window today. It was making small rainbows all over her kitchen and it’s funny because I was just trying to photography my ring, somewhere, I forget where, but the light was just right and my ring was sparkling like crazy. But its brilliance was just too small to capture with my camera (too small for my camera but perfect for me to enjoy).
Anywho, enjoy this disco moment. You might want to get up and dance. I don’t want my readers entering a Doodles and Jots trance!
More, More, More, Pt. I from the Andrea True Connection is on the Last Days of Disco Soundtrack. And see the movie if you want an intellectual take on single life in the disco age (with fun music).
Are you a disco music fan or more of a rocker? Please share!
Guess what I am doing right now…
I am mending clothes, a pair of my son’s pants to be exact. I don’t bother fixing most things but if my kids get a hole in something nice that still fits, I will add it to the top of my sewing pile.
What’s at the bottom? Sorry Mr. Doodles and Jots, I promise to eventually get to your pants that you haven’t been able to wear for months because they need a button. Continue reading
Hey, hey, it’s voting day!
I almost always vote. I know my one vote doesn’t make a big difference but for some reason I feel important on voting day. I feel part of something big. It reminds me of ants and what they are able to accomplish together with each one doing his itty-bitty part. I also think about my grandmother who remembered when women were given the right to vote. Can you imagine?! Before 1920 women where not allowed to vote.
I get excited and I actually get nervous once I am in the booth. What if I make a mistake?! I remember my first time voting in a presidential election in 1988. I voted absentee. I voted for Michael Dukakis. Do you remember that election?!
It’s like a holiday here. No school. Administrators plan a Cape wide teacher’s professional day on voting day which keeps kids safe and out of the schools that today serve as polling locations.
So Happy Voting Day my fellow ants!
