Make your blog easier to navigate

If you post every day for a year that is 365 posts.  Times 2 years, 3…  That is a lot of content!  I bet a lot of those posts could be interesting, useful, and or entertaining to your readers today.  Wouldn’t you like to have all that content easy to find and perhaps keep new readers around a little longer?  Maybe create some new followers!

The two basic approaches to navigate I use are Continue reading

I Like Dolls

Dolls that come to life book list

I hope nobody I knew drove by while I was taking this picture!

I like dolls.  There I said it and I am not ashamed to admit it!  I like old dolls, new dolls, plastic, ceramic, wood, and fabric dolls.  I think I like them because dress up is fun and because they are vehicles of imagination.

My favorite doll as a child was a German doll we named Lorelei that I took everywhere and when I got a little older I had a doll house.  That doll house was so grand it made me feel so special!  Now I have a box with several small dolls I have collected over the years and once in a while, when I am trying to organized my things, I happen upon it and have fun looking.  My two favorites are a wooden doll that came with a pattern to make her dress and a reissue of fashion designer Barbie (she even had a portfolio with drawings in it).

Saturday the 14th

Luck filled day
Say, hurray!
So sublime,
To be on time
Almost shocked
Pantry’s stocked
2 hand sip
Notta drip!
Favorite toy
Overjoy
Temp. to be
70
Cars unseen
Lights are green
Havin’ fun
2 for one
Caught the ball
All down hill
Sent recall
Will not bill
Hassle free
Policy
Done! early
Butter-flea
Pleasant chat
This and that
Let’s pretend,
Day suspend!

* * *

Thank goodness for lucky days!  They balance out the unlucky ones.

Friday the 13th

Luckless day
Disarray
Running late
Irritate
All’s amiss
Outta this?
Milky spill
No refill
Broken toy
Tearful boy
Preordain
Caught in rain
Bus ahead
Light is red
Bad hair day
Overpay
Trip on vine
Timbuktu
Pay the fine
Overdue
What’s required,
Has expired
Forgotten key
Stung by bee
Dropped the phone
Moan and groan
So I pray
For Saturday!

Tag Sale

What’s this? look through, scan with eyes, with hands, textures, feels soft, feels rough, feels funny, explore, cool stuff, curiosity, looking at them, them at me, sad, old, cold, waiting, used, weathered, unwanted… set aside, sorted, grouped, collected, re-wanted, new to someone, interesting, intriguing, mysterious, tells a story, holds a mystery, keeps a secret, inexpensive, value, valuable… ideas, new ideas, thinking, thinking back, distracted, unrelated thoughts, getting home, capture it, object in hand, a piece, a token, a memory.

Now for the fun part!  What did you imagine I took home from the tag sale.  Please share your hand-drawn picture of it in the comment section below!  BTW, I am trying out a new plugin and would love feedback on how well it worked and if you enjoyed it.

Update:  I had a couple people let me know it wasn’t working.  For now, draw in words.

Bird Book Bonanza

I have done a lot of bird posts and a lot of book posts but never a bird book post!  At least I don’t think…  I have told you about my favorite take along guide book and we have another larger guide book with more birds but this is not a field guide or reference book post.  In fact between my Golden Guide: Birds and All About Birds online, my identification and basic bird facts needs are covered.  Here I have included books to read and enjoy with or about birds!

13 Spooky Reads!

Halloween Children’s Book Favorites…

It is Halloween year round here!  My kids just love all things Halloween.  My son has a costume catalog full of tape repairs that he peruses on a regular basis.  My daughters loves our Halloween book collection and has her favorites at the library too.  I don’t remember liking scary things at all as a kid!  Isn’t it interesting how kids are like us in lots of ways and not like us at all in others?!  Lots of people are attracted to scary things.  I wonder why that is?

Even though it is not my favorite, if it gets them reading I am all for it!  I supposes if they had nightmares I might think differently.  I think it helps to keep it age appropriate.

Art Instruction Books for Kids

Today I am featuring a guest artist, my 6 year old daughter!  Possibly inspired by Press Here?  I don’t know, but I love this simple polka-dotted piece!  She also has her own blog, check it out at Coloring Book Center!

* * *

You don’t need art instruction books for your kids.  It’s the truth!  Give them crayons, markers, construction paper, and they naturally know what to do with them.  Don’t interfere, don’t hover or tell them what do do.  Just show your interest in what they create.  Provide them with good lighting a comfortable chair, and work table and let them go!

Old Timey Words

My neighbors often have a table of free stuff on their front lawn. Sometimes bigger things too including furniture but they are usually old MDF pieces that are close to the end of their life cycle therefore not worth taking. No matter what they have, my daughter wants it. Sometime I will take the long way in order to not have to pass it because I hate saying no.

Yesterday they had an old television cabinet out on display. Continue reading
