Red Grass

colorful lawn

I wonder if there is any actual grass in our yard. Ever couple weeks my lawn becomes a different type of weed. It is even more obvious by comparison now that I have a patch of actual grass in the back corner that I planted last fall.  If I think about it I want to do something about it so I try not to think about it.  Plus it’s not the worst lawn in the neighborhood.   Continue reading

Children of the Tipi Review & Giveaway

childrenofthetipi

During spring vacation we visited the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History. It is one of our favorite things to do. This time my kids especially enjoyed the shark exhibit! Me, I was humbled all over again by the poster that greets you. It quotes Dunford & O’Brien’s Secrets in the Sand…   Continue reading

I Spy: Light

light

I love this series!  I am always seeing things while driving that I want to capture and share but it is usually not practical to pull over and snap a picture.  This morning I saw the bright sunlight turn a vine into a neon sign exaggerated by the woods in shadow behind.  So tacky Mr. Sun!

What have you seen lately?  Please share!

Lantern

lantern still

Tulips are blooming in our neighborhood.  On sunny days they glow with sunlight!  I think they would look like paper lanterns if they were to glow at night.

Maybe they do glow at night somewhere!  Fireflies produce light through a chemical reaction called bioluminescence.  Scientists used this as inspiration to create glowsticks.  Yay for fireflies and glowsticks!

I Spy: Fox

I drive down the same streets all the time as probably most moms do.  I go to the school and back, the grocery store, my sister’s house, and the library.  That is about it.  It can get pretty boring so when I see something new or different I get all excited and want to share!  Of course it would be dangerous to snap a picture while driving and it isn’t always practical to pull over so I am going to turn it into a mini series of illustrated posts from memory…  I Spy (my observations from behind the wheel).

I saw this fox yesterday…

a fox

First he was in a yard and when I passed he walked into the street and stared back at me.  Others have seen foxes around here but I never have.

Foxes appear in lots of children’s books.  One of my favorites is One Fine Day, a folktale retold by Nonny Hogrogian with Caldecott winning illustrations.  This fox gets his tail cut of for stealing.  Read the book to find out how he gets it back!

Do you see foxes?  What is your favorite fox story?  Please share!

Tide

watching the tide

You can always count on the tides.  They come in and go out and come in again.  I suppose, too, the tides can catch you off guard like they have for the dolphins, with tragic consequences, here on Cape Cod.  The tide rises and falls so fast on some beaches because the grade is so slight.

You can actually watch it happening.  Watch this video at 2X speed…   Continue reading
