Here is the latest in my Animals Eating series…
These are Red-breasted Mergansers on a Cape Cod layover headed north for the summer. The ones with the black heads are the males. They were constantly diving below for fish! I was a little too far away for video so enjoy my slideshow set to Brokenhearted by Karim (trying not to put anyone to sleep)…
Are you seeing migrating birds? Please share!
We had such a great time in Florida this winter! I think the most valued part of the trip was the down time at my parent’s place just exploring and enjoying the Florida sun in the yard. Kids love being outside and winters are long in the northeast. We found lots of interesting yet somewhat expected things in their southern Florida yard. We also found something quite unexpected… Continue reading
I see this nest when I drop my daughter off at school in the morning. I originally thought it was a crows nest because I first saw it in the fall and there were crows in it. Now I know after a year and a half of making my drop that it is actually an Osprey nest and the Osprey evict the loitering crows every spring. This grand spot is on top of an old school. The school I went to in fact. After years of being abandoned and neglected it is now under construction and being turned into apartments. A couple weeks ago I noticed the nest was gone after a new roof appeared. I was wondering what the Osprey would do and sure enough they rebuild! That is their spot after all.
Can you spot the House Sparrows hanging out on the nest? Are they groupies?
We kept running into the same bird brains down in Florida!
Take for example the Boat-tailed Grackles. Man were they strange! Can you even imagine being in Florida and wanting to hang out in parking lots all the time?!
We are SO happy to finally be home after almost two weeks in Florida! We had such a great adventure driving down the east coast, visiting Disney for the first time, spending time with relatives, and attending my sister’s wedding is Southern Florida. It was so jam packed we hardly made it to the beach!
I am planning several posts inspired by our Florida trip including… Continue reading
As promised, here is my Instagram road trip travel log! Months ago we decided to drive down to Florida for my sister’s wedding since it is during school vacation week when airfare is so steep. I was surprised at how well the kids did on our more than 1,500 mile drive! It was their first time. They had their Kindles, books on tape, and took plenty of naps! Their favorite was Where the Mountain Meets the Moon by Grace Lin which we listen to twice! And since we had to leave a day early we had a nice afternoon in DC. We also spent 2 days at Disney and I promise to post about that soon.
Start of the storm
I think we were in denial about the storm actually hitting. By the time we started taking it seriously it was too late to get out entirely ahead of it. Continue reading
As I mentioned yesterday are on vacation in Florida! Part of our journey took us through central Florida where lots of oranges grow. We were so impressed by the quantity of oranges in this truck until we drove by an orange distribution center with lots and lots of rows and columns of bins as big and as full as this truck!
