Love Is in the Air

I can’t believe I didn’t notice the heart in the sky when I took this photo last winter.  If I did I certainly wouldn’t have cut off the top!  I still love it though and have been waiting a long time to use it.  Maui Shop Girl’s “Take a Photo” link up theme this week is UP and with Valentine’s Day nearing I thought it was the perfect time to share it.  Plus I have something else planned for February 14th!  I don’t know why but I really love clouds!  I wrote about them here.  I think a BIG part of the reason is I really like looking up!

It’s a Bird! It’s a Plane! Beach Edition

Jots about the bird…

  • Barn Swallows seem to really like the beach.
  • Watch one take a mid-migratory sip here.
  • They used to build their mud nests in caves, now mostly on man-made structures.
  • A male may kill another’s babies in an attempt to break-up a mated pair.
  • When it flies, I think it looks like a mini fighter jet.

It’s a Bird! It’s a Plane! not-technically edition

Jots about the bird…

    • It’s an Eastern Towhee.
    • I identified it at All About Birds using the “similar species” feature.
    • I thought it was a small robin when I first saw it.
    • It spends lots of time noisily foraging in thicket.
    • Cow birds often lay eggs in towhee nests; Towhees have trouble distinguishing there own eggs and will then raise the young Cow birds!

Jots about the plane…

    • It’s not a plane (planes have fixed wings)!
    • It appears to be a military helicopter and it was LOUD!
    • I like these classic wooden propeller toys.
    • You can make one from paper with these instructions.
    • I wonder what this helicopter was up to…
